A little technical explanation on capacitors: Most guitars and basses with passive pickups use between .01mfd and .1mfd
(mfd =microfarad usually writen as µF) Capacitors with .022 µF and .047 µF being the most common choices. The capacitor and tone pot are wired together to provide a variable low pass filter. This means when the tone pot is turned only the low frequencies (Bass) pass to the output jack and on to the Amplifier The high frequencies (Treble) are shunted to the ground (cut out).
The capacitor value determines the "cutoff frequency" of the filter and the position of the tone pot determines
how much of the highs (everything above the cutoff frequency) will be reduced.
:
    * Larger-value capacitors will have lower cutoff frequency and sound darker in the bass setting because a wider range of
         frequencies are being reduced.
    * Smaller-value capacitors will have a higher cutoff frequency and sound brighter in the bass setting because only the
         ultra-high frequencies are cut.
For this reason, dark sounding guitars (like Les Pauls) with humbuckers typically use .022 µF capacitors to cut off less of the highs and guitars like Strats and Teles with single coils typically use .047 µF capacitors to allow more treble to be rolled off. This is not a fixed and fast rule you can used any value you wish.

Reduce unwanted electrical noise by using shielded cable for your longer wiring runs (for example, the connection between the controls and the output jack). Shielded cable contains a center “hot” conductor which is shielded by an outer braid used for the ground wire.

For short connections between components, use standard non-shielded wire. Typically, white wire is used for hot
and black for ground.

250K-Ohm Standard Pot Used with single coil pickups
